The Liboulou Market

A Photo Story Created for the Exposure.co Platform

Combining journalism and photography to create compelling image-driven digital publications

Project Information

The word Libulu means “hole” in Lingala, the local language in Kinshasa. The “hole” in which the Libulu market sits is located between a busy road and a railway in the middle of the city. The market was created in the 1970s by craftspeople specialized in shoe making.

Working with a local journalist, I explored the market, guided by one of its preeminent figure, Mr. Antoine Yangsa, and learned how job creation is helping disadvantaged youth.
